Name That Obscure Hog

Welcome to the inaugural edition of what will be a periodic feature here at Razorback Expats. “Name That Obscure Hog” is a straightforward game: We post a photo of a Razorback that most fans have surely long forgotten about and ask our readers to name him. The first person to do so will receive nothing in return other than our undying respect … as well as our concern that he or she - like us - may need to get out more.

We will say only the following things about today’s Obscure Hog: 1) he was a basketball player and 2) his media-guide entry contains one of the funniest lines we’ve come across in such a publication: “Endurance and being prone to illness are his greatest drawbacks.” Poor guy.

Here’s the photo. Let the guessing begin:

… Certainly not Pat Bradley.

I’m clueless, though the face is certainly familiar.

Doesn’t look like Davor Rimac even though we all know his fondness for the cowboy look. This guy doesn’t have as much hair grease as Davor.

I’m thinking that is one Mr. Brad Friess, originally from Austin, Texas. And I am really getting concerned about the dudeliness thing.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner, and DrMongoose is it (although the 1981-82 media guides spells the last name as “Olson”). That guide provides most of what I know about the man (as well as the photo above): He was a 6′8″ forward from Denver; and he received a medical hardship for the 1980-81 season (his true freshman season) after scoring a total of eight points in two games.

More recent media guides don’t have him listed as a letterman, so it sounds like he probably didn’t make it through the 1981-82 season.

Craig, if you’re reading, feel free to fill us in on your life since then.
