I was at that game photographing for the old Arkansas Gazette. One of my best days ever because, not only did my beloved Hogs win, I had a shot of THE shot and it garnered Orville Henry's attention and comments in his story the next day. I think after that Orville always had a positive attitude about me and my work. Believe me, I was happy about that.

Actually, NC came into this game with a 21-0 record, not 19-0. The Arkansas media guide, in their section on the greatest UA games in history, has had this wrong for years. I do recall the game vividly and I remember exactly where I was when I watched it that Sunday afternoon. Until the 1994 national championship game, this was my all-time favorite UA basketball moment for so many reasons. I am glad I have this on tape (and I have burned it onto DVD to preserve it). It went down in history as the first UA basketball win over the nation's top ranked team. Great memory!

one of my favorite childhood memories as well, and easily the best thing to ever happen in pine bluff. i was just telling my girlfriend about my christmas eve tradition of watching my beat-to-hell recording of that game. truly never got old. often made christmas a let down.

can't wait to watch it again.

Good flashback. Steve Hale was one of the more underappreciated Tarheels I think. Everyone remembers and talks about Jordan and Perkins and Daugherty, but Hale could really play. That was quite a team the Hogs beat that day - they had five future NBA players on that roster (Jordan, Perkins, Wolf, Popson, and Daugherty).
