Five Reasons to Hate Mississippi State

In case you need any extra help getting fired up, we’ll be providing a handy pre-game cheat sheet detailing why you should hate each one of the Razorbacks’ opponents this fall. Some weeks will be easier than others…

from lsuphootball.wordpress.com1. They’re Better Than We Are. The Bulldogs aren’t Crooming their opponents anymore, they’re just straight up beating them. Looking at the matchup with brutal objectivity, you’d have to say that they’re better than we are at this point in the season, and with Felix Jones hobbled with an injury we don’t like where this train of thought is headed.

2. They Own the State of Alabama (and Kentucky). MSU-19, Auburn-14. MSU-31, Kentucky-14. MSU-17, Alabama-12. Given how our own games turned out at against those three teams, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t a little jealous.

3. They’re Standing in the Way Between Us and a Crappy Bowl Game. With all but two SEC teams already bowl-eligible (sorry Ole Miss and Vandy) but only limited spots available, this game could amount to a play-in for the Blah Blah C-List Corporate Sponsor No Name Bowl. Think about that for a second. Then think about how much it sucks that a team with Darren McFadden and Felix Jones is having to battle the Mississippi State Bulldogs for the right to play in even the lamest of bowl games.

4. They Get Fired Up in Ways That Make Us Queasy. Or at least they used to…who can forget when Jackie Sherrill, that legendary class act, tried to rally his team before a game against Texas by castrating a bull during practice? (ok, Sherrill didn’t actually do the castration, but he made it happen) Of course, the Bulldogs won that game 28-10, which shows you how much we know about motivating college football teams (or at least ones from Mississippi).

5. They Might Not Have the Internet in Starkville. Astute readers of this blog might have noticed that we haven’t done a Q&A with a Mississippi State blogger this week. That’s because there don’t seem to be any Mississippi State bloggers. A search of the Best of the SEC blogroll as well as the Internet at large turned up exactly zero appropriate sparring partners for us. Maybe AOL should drop off a bunch of their free CDs on and around the MSU campus before next year’s game.

Afternoon,

As a Mississippi State alum married to a Arkansas alum, I have seen alot of Mississippi State and Arkansas sports over the last few years, vs each other and the rest of the SEC, good and bad.

This year’s version of the Bullies is statistically one of the worst teams that Croom has put on the field (according to www.sundaymorningqb.com), but we can not figure out why we are beating better teams (Kentucky, Auburn) and some of the same teams we beat last year (Alabama, UAB). But we are not complaining.

The way the SEC has played out this year, just because a team beats another doesn’t mean that anybody can predict what a third team may do. For example, LSU beat us down, Kentucky sqeaked by LSU in OT and Miss. State beat Kentucky, although the LSU/MSU game was so long ago.

Another way to look at this game is that the Hogs are standing in our way also. A Arkansas team that, the pastor that married my wife and I said that we should have Croomed our own coach for losing to us last year. I thought UA was pretty good last year.

I was in school at State when the Bull thing happened. I have nothing on it.

As for the internet thing, cell service is hard enough to get in the stadium. But I did count 7 bloggers, did nobody respond? I have looked around some of these and I personally think most of these are weak. Greg Ellis is one that has pretty good information and Kyle Veazy with Gannet is an idiot. I am working on a blog that I hope to have up and running in the spring, hopefully before the SEC basketball tourny and baseball season.

I have enjoyed reading the parts of your blog, and although I enjoyed the UA/Miss game this year, I am pulling for UA to end up 6-6. I have to pull for my Dawgs, I will be in LR on Sat. and everybody with 6 wins needs LSU and UGA/Tenn to get into the BCS/Sugar.

I hope Felix gets better in time for kickoff on Friday in Tiger Stadium.

Mike, thanks for the kind words. Regarding the MSU bloggers, to be fair there are some but they were mostly either a) updated very infrequently (a bad sign) or b) run by newspaper guys like Greg Ellis (which isn’t really what we’re after).

Let us know when you start up your blog…maybe we can do a Q&A during basketball season.

When mentioning the fact that MSU owns the state of Alabama, you should also note that they beat UAB this year as well.

I’m actually kinda glad you hate MS State. It just shows we’re actually doing something right.

And we do have internet service. Trust me, it’s all over campus, wireless AND ethernet. I’m actually in my dorm room writing this.
So, before you start agreeing with Ole Miss and say we are all backwards here, get the facts straight.

Go dawgs! :D
